Summary

Steve’s 25 years of accumulated commercial knowledge and experience were gained as follows.

Following graduation, he joined a computer manufacturer as a commercial trainee. The scheme led to experience in marketing, contracts, purchasing and human resources.

After completing the training programme Steve was responsible for the recruitment activities of a 1600 person operation. This was followed by compensation and employment relations appointments in the car manufacturing and engineering industries. From here Steve re-entered the computing industry as HR Manager for a research and development facility. He became UK Head of management training and development for that company, setting up their training portfolio and executive development scheme.

He then joined a major software banking services provider as Head of HR for global operations in a period of high growth and acquisition. Steve joined a global commodity trading and food processing company, holding appointments as UK HR Manager.

HR IT Projects Manager and latterly European Learning Manager.

In 1999 Steve established PBi Consulting to utilise his commercial focus, accumulated experience and pragmatic implementation skills. His goal is to provide value added consulting and training services to organisations. His approach to business transformation and change management fuses together business requirements with people development.

Recent Professional Activity

Business development and transformation

• Part of an executive steering group that consolidated six business product lines into a single “one face to the customer” service centre with a common administrative infrastructure.
• Designed a re-focusing programme for a Corporate IT job family to develop a more consultative approach to internal clients
• Successfully relocated two head offices from Central London
• Devised a European strategy to decentralise and outsource employee training at the local business level. Designed a plan and related training to develop the HR job family consulting skills.
• Led a customer value initiative which involved management, sales and customer service training.
• Integrated a national Human resource database, payroll and accounting systems to develop greatly improved management reporting. Selected and arranged installation programme of a European time and attendance software provider.
• Utilised the Business Excellence model to bring about a customer focus and employee orientation in a European product line.
• Conducted process-mapping exercises on a number of international product lines to ensure efficiency of operation and high customer service levels.
• Researched and set-up a salary structure for a financial trading business being set-up in the UK.

Selection and People Development activities

• Recruited executive level appointments for the administrative infrastructure of a food processor. Disciplines covered included, finance, taxation, legal, public affairs, marketing HR and IT.
• Conducted numerous behavioural interviewing skills training workshops.
• Developed a competency framework and related performance appraisal system
• Identified and co-developed a European executive leadership development programme.
• Designed and facilitated executive workshops for organisational reviews, succession planning and executive teambuilding.
• Arranged and conducted Assessment and Development centres for Graduates through to Director level.
• Provided feedback and individual coaching to management and executives utilising psychometrics and 360 degree feedback.
