  • Acquired and installed new laptop and wireless printer in London office.
  • Added some interesting information from Mike Rofe in Japan (see Consultant News).
  • Commissioned for the latest version of the System Administration and installation Guide for an international Learning Management System. Versions produced will be in Acrobat and HTML with a JAVA Table of Contents created from a single source in Microsoft Word.
  • End of year financial planning and purchases of renewals of hardware and software.

  • The UK Sarbanes-Oxley project was extended twice to enable further work for the Internal Audit function, updating narratives in line with remediation, new procedures and tools. It is now completed and the client is completing final preparations for the external audit.
  • Meetings with associates on current projects.
  • Visits to France & Belgium.
  • Updated Val Abl’s CV and Download.
  • Received a nice testimonial from Stefan Daehler in Switzerland following his purchase from the CHL Shop: “Your shipment reached here in perfect shape, yesterday. Best thanks for your excellent services. I'm certain, I'll come back to Chelverton House later again.”

  • Updated the download CV of Stephen Helms.
  • Holiday in Sicily with good weather, fruit and local wildlife (see Mantis above).
  • Work has been extended with the UK Sarbanes-Oxley project and includes more development of procedures, templates and documents in preparation for an pre-SOX internal audit.
  • Completed the SOX 404 IT Controls testing project in Europe and project report written and delivered. The client has expressed satisfaction with the quality of the auditors and their work and thus on the bases of timeliness, quality and cost, the project was judged a successful one.
  • More sales of software from the CHL Shop.

  • Commissioned to develop the web site for the French-based fine foods organization; collecting information concerning access, images, products and services.
  • Continuation of UK Sarbanes-Oxley project, creating, reviewing narrative documents in line with COBIT style key controls; focus on authorization, authentication, passwords and backup and recovery. Additionally:
    • Use of Visio and Excel for complex diagrams and forms and provision of Word support.
    • Review and documentation of procedures and project management.
  • SOX 404 IT Controls testing by two CHL IT Auditors in France for the Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) project for the European operations of the American chemical company; testing IT Management, Change Control, Operations and Security; start up in the UK and the Netherlands this week.
  • Visited the property in the Touraine, France and harvested some apples and pears; the fencing is complete and the main work on refurbishing the house starts in October; town gas arrives in the village this month!

  • Sales activity for a Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) project for the four main European operations of an American chemical company. Discussions & quotation & WON the business. Initial UK site visit and assigned Jorge Martinez, Howard Whitener and Stephen Helms to the project.
  • Jorge Martinez, a professional business analyst with more than 10 years experience including analysis of IT controls for Sarbanes-Oxley section 404 compliance in conjunction with the Big 5 auditing firms, has been added to the CHL consultants list.
  • Visit to Pau - but for a birthday party - not the Tour de France. Great views and goats in the Vallé d’Ossau in the Pyrenees, Jurançon wine and sheep’s cheese!
  • Start up for newSarbanes-Oxley project UK - primarily concerned with collection and distribution of electronic top-up services to mobile telephone operators and retailers. Production of house style, Key Controls, review of policies and continuity plans; interviewing & collection of information; first drafts of descriptive documents.
  • Updates completed to Product Specification and User Guide for Learning Management System. Production of Acrobat and HTML Help versions from a single source.

  • CHL has formed an association with a French-based fine foods organization and will provide UK administrative and Internet support.
  • CHL commissioned for more Sarbanes-Oxley work for a UK subsidiary of a USA electronic financial transaction solutions company.
  • Updated Sarbanes-Oxley page and added a new page on specialist diagrams
  • Collected news of CHL associates in the UK and elsewhere - see Consultant News.
  • Stephen Helms gave a presentation in French to the Colloque de Rennes (professional Translation organizations visiting the University) on 10th June in Brittany on the life of a technical writer.
  • ISTC London Group networking meeting at CHL on Wednesday 8th June 18:30 - 21:30. Successful meeting with Liz Joynes, the new committee member - discussion on future meetings and locations, dinner and drinks in the garden.
  • First draft of the product specification for the Learning Management System. Updates and the User guide to do.
  • More updates for www.lazulinil.com and construction of a demonstration film (in real Player .rm format).
  • Updated Antiques photo gallery with larger photos in pop up Windows.

  • Received quotations for the development of the property in the Touraine, France.
  • Produced and uploaded www.lazulinil.com, an Egyptian web site providing Nile cruises and desert tours, in both English and French versions. See also Client comment.
  • Continued work on Learning Management System documentation project.
  • Sales and networking activities for France and the UK.
  • Upgraded web development and FTP software and updated the five active web sites for which CHL is responsible, including this one.

  • Received quotations, acceptance by Insurance companies, replaced all damaged hardware and installed new software under Windows XP Professional SP2.
  • Visit to Egypt - commissioned to produce English version of a holiday company providing exclusive cruises on the Nile and tours in the western desert - demo version produced.
  • Remarkable lightning strike destroyed back up PC, wireless router, telephone & digital TV decoder. Backed up files both on the PC and on CD recovered. Insurance for replacements.

  • Updating Narratives for SOx based on the recommended remediation with further discussions and translation work for the three sites in France.
  • Mailing to ISTC members in the south of England to increase the London group activity.
  • New testimonial from Searchspace for work using FrameMaker for operations and user guides.
  • Agreement in principle to research business partners for a Portuguese company for its International Management Business Simulation activity.

  • Organized fencing round the Touraine property - but work will not start for a month or two.

A busy start to the year with lots of work and er ... work ... but satisfying all the same!

  • Clearing the land in the Touraine reveals an ‘avenue’ of trees.
  • David Farbey, a CHL associate consultant graduated with an MA from the Sheffield Hallam Technical Communication course.
  • Sales continued on the CHL Shop and proposal work for CHL and associate consultants.
  • Presentation on 26th by Jane Nolting of ITR International Translation Resources Limited entitled Today’s translation industry and how technology is used in technical translation projects. It was an excellent overview of the industry and multi-lingual projects, was well received by the authors present and the time to discuss issues over the cheese and wine appreciated.
  • Installed Acrobat 7 and attended upgrade training.
  • Updated for 2005 the two web sites Lodge and Villa rental and forest walking weekends with new dates, prices, photos etc. Changed hosts for the four domains and reorganized storage on the Server.
  • Visits and information gathering in French near Paris and the south of France for COSO Lite; report writing. SOx testing at main French site. Business flow charts, network diagrams and application flows in Visio.
  • Completed report for the Enterprise web-based Learning Management System. Commissioned to write functional specification update and user guides for the London-based international company.
  • Commissioned to undertake COSO Lite version of Sarbanes-Oxley 404 (SOx) for the IT activities of subsidiaries of US hardware and cabling installation company.
  • Completed web site for the Chelsea Dental Practice.
