Summary

Jean Harrison has over 25 years business experience supporting international commercial activities. She has worked as an Investment Adviser and Securities Dealer, the manager of a Funds Transfer Unit and as an economist and country risk analyst. Before that she was an economist and statistician.

She has worked as an independent consultant specialising in aid finance and marketing since 1989. Currently she is working with two UK charities on developing overseas enterprises and advises a Training and Enterprise Council on international project work. Other activities include registering companies with multilateral agencies and monitoring the Internet for business opportunities. She is also a director of InterFinance and Business Services Ltd which was set up with partners in Russia to undertake market analysis and advise on investment finance in Eastern Europe.

In addition to attending most of the UK conferences hosted by the aid agencies, Jean has visited the World Bank Group, US bilateral agencies and other financing institutions in Washington DC and the European Union. These latter institutions include Brussels and Luxembourg as well as field offices in Eastern Europe and the UN agencies in Vienna and Geneva. Previously Jean has undertaken overseas and UK market studies for companies and market research organisations. Jean is a committee member of the International Consulting Economists’ Association. Between 1972 and 1988, Jean trained as an economist worked in international finance, the power and telecommunications industries.

  • Advising charities on funding for setting up overseas projects.

  • Drafting expressions of interest / proposals for EU funded Central / Eastern European and Mediterranean projects.
  • Co-ordinating international registrations and project profiles for UK organisations. 
  • Retained by energy, telecommunications and training companies to monitor the Internet for business opportunities as offered by the multilateral agencies.
  • Proposal and project team member for EU / Central European consortium distance learning project financed by the European Training Foundation.
  • Advising a management consultancy on using the Internet for tender opportunities.
  • Wrote an aid funds guide for the DTI Joint Environmental Markets Unit.
  • Retained by a multinational pharmaceutical company to advise on procedures through to presentation of letters of credit for EU financed contracts in Russia and Eastern Europe.
  • Assisted a telecommunications company to target concessionary financing sources.
  • Strategy for a major UK corporation on funding to support worldwide training activities.
  • Financing plan for a UK Estonia timber joint venture.
  • Marketing plan for an oil equipment company in Russia.
  • Interviews with Russian leasing companies for a German transport company.
  • Washington DC - investigated US policy trends on multilateral financial institutions for a Russian telecommunications company.
  • Market research in the Urals on healthcare financing.
  • Accessing EC grants for a European management consultancy consortium.
