2006-2007

 

Howard Whitener
  • Continued work in Washington and returning to Dallas in 2007.
  • New addition to the family - congratulations!
Jorge Martinez
  • SOX work continues and finished a project in Chicago in September 2006.
  • Then in Brazil and Venezuela.
Jurgen de Dobbeleer
  • Business wise, things are booming... My company's contracted to an Asset Management company right now... at least till the end of this year, and they've already expressed their interest in 2008 as well.
Stephen Helms
  • Interim Communications Manager for an MIS unit of a European organization- see News - 2007 and News - 2008.
  • Site, System and end user guides for Thomson NETg in Word, PDF and HTML versions.
  • Development and Training project on compliance issues in Dublin. Live and online versions of the course produced.
  • XDK Training in Bristol and Technical Writing Training in Dublin.
2005

 

Matthew Salisbury
  • Projects in the second half of 2005 have included: a one-day workshop, Writing good English for business, designed for and given to marketing executives; editing a series of European Works Council case studies and First European Quality of Life Survey: Housing and local environment for the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions; editing three textbooks (with artwork briefs) in Macmillan’s Jamaica Primary Integrated Curriculum series; editing the National Federation of Women’s Institutes annual report; and working on several business web sites including our own (Salisbury Ward Associates – words for business) at www.salisburyward.co.uk .
Jorge Martinez
  • Jorges has visited the disaster zone in New Orleans where he part-owned a house - now completely ruined. He is dealing with the insurance companies and still busy with SOX testing.
Nick Bradbury
  • Nick has been spending a lot of time in Bahrain working with a sports marketing group and the Bahraini Government.
Mike Rofe
David Tebbs
  • December 2005: CHL associate David Tebbs, was recently appointed Chairman of Stagebeach Limited, a training and corporate communications business best known for its subsidiary GBS Corporate Training Ltd.
Peter Murley
  • Peter Murley has long experience in Human Resources, CRM (Customer Relationship Management) now referred to as Customer experience Management as well as Operations, Project and Programme Management. More recently:
  • Peter has just started another new venture with two associates. It is called mpathy and its activity concerns delivering great customer experiences in the housing and education markets.
Howard Whitener

Howard Whitener has continued his role as an independent IT auditor throughout 2005.

  • For the first three months he was kept busy with the team (including Stephen Helms) working on Sarbanes-Oxley 404 for a global client throughout Europe.
  • Recently he has been working with Accelerated Security in Dallas, Texas, USA creating technical documentation, verifying that the client has adequate controls in place and that they are documented within existing policies and procedures. He has regular discussions with the Vice President of IT concerning the results of audits with periodic reviews and recommends appropriate corrective measures.
  • Apart from his business travel he has recently moved house and enjoys driving his 4x4.

Val Abl is the only associate to have visited CHL both in London and Paris and has been busy with:

  • A change management program for a major government department
  • Assessment Centres in Germany and France for a major European aircraft manufacturer
  • HR Research and training for a for a French cosmetic company
  • Acting as navigator when flying with her Austrian husband to France.
Jurgen de Dobbeleer

Jurgen De Dobbeleer has been working for:

  • MeesPierson-Fortis Brussels, Belgium
     (Functional / Business Analyst – Process Manager)
  • Delta Lloyd Bank Brussels, Belgium
    (Project Manager – Functional / Business Analyst)
David Farbey
  • David Farbey has completed his studies at Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) and has been awarded an MA degree in Technical Authorship. David's degree thesis involved a study of job satisfaction for technical communicators, and a report on his research appears in the Summer 2005 edition of the ISTC journal "The Communicator".
  • David has now joined the academic team for SHU's Technical Communications MA course as an Associate Lecturer, and he is helping support the Information Design and Software Documentation modules.
  • David has also taken over as President of the UK Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication (STC) for 2005 - 2006.
Liz Joynes
  • Liz Joynes has had her first experience of bid writing, for a large multinational engineering contractor. "The engineering business doesn’t seem to have changed much since I last worked in a similar type of firm in the late 70s. Good fun".
  • After over 25 years of technical writing, Liz is now turning her hand to fiction, writing a play (as yet untitled) in collaboration with three other relative newbies. The basic theme is flat-sharing, which brings back memories for her. Her drama group, Hallmark Players, hopes to put on the play as part of the Wandsworth Festival in November 2005.
Marian Newell
  • Due to the continued growth of her own company, Newell-Porter, Marian Newell has decided to withdraw from the list of CHL Associate Consultants.
  • She is working for two technical communication companies and products range from golf accessories to the bank note sorters to alarm systems to defence-related services. Marian says “I know my visibility in the ISTC has been a big factor -- people like working with people they know”.
  • As well as editing Communicator, the quarterly journal for the technical communication profession, Marian provides freelance technical authoring services to an expanding portfolio of regular clients.
Matthew Salisbury
  • In 2005 Matthew Salisbury’s major projects have included writing a report for the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work on projects run by SMEs to promote safety at work.
  • He has edited and is now proofreading a book for Macmillan Oxford: Caribbean Narratives of Belonging: Fields of Relations, Sites of Identity. 
  • He has just finished editing a report, Industrial Relations in Europe 2004, for the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions.
  • Matthew is currently seeking business clients who need a professional ‘second pair of eyes’ to rewrite, polish and/or proofread promotional materials and B2B communications.
David Tebbs
  • David Tebbs had a busy start to the year as senior non executive director of Pittards plc as the company moves from main listing to AIM. Appointed chairman of the audit committee this spring.
  • ITNEA, founded by David as an association for NEDs in listed TMT companies, continues with an active meetings programme and successful advertising for NEDs amongst its membership. This year’s summer reception is at the Royal Opera House.
  • This year David has rebuilt the web sites www.itnea.net and www.majkens.co.uk to achieve better search engine ratings and attract more traffic (particularly responding to changes in search engine practices)
  • David has spent the last few month assisting professional photographer Majken Kruse move to digital manipulation and management of her photographs as she has converted to using digital cameras.
